The dream of a surfing career in the Philippines remains the dream of dreams to many surfers that call the PI home. A dream that is very much achievable due to the amount of very talented Filipino surfers and the uncanny inspiration for success to ensure the well being of family, friends, and the community.

From the small town of La Union, San Fernando, Roger Casugay is on a quest to be a world wide known professional surfer with hope’s to motivate the younger generation to help them reach their goals of surfing notoriety. Last year at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held at Barangay Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union, Casugay made headlines with his effort to help another competitor whose leash broke in double-overhead waves in the midst of a semi-final heat. In the end of the event, Roger ended up winning the event with fellow Filipino surfer Jay-R Esqeuivel coming in second.

Roger now has a goal of giving back to his community of La Union with his event, the Roger Casugay Lokals Grom Comp for the youth of the small town. The mission for the event is "to promote camaraderie amongst the surf community and to engage the younger generation in healthy competition, under the guidance of a suitable role model who exemplifies all the good qualities of the filipino spirit," says Gabs. With the help of his fellow competitors and mentors, such as Jay R Esqeuivel, Luke Landrigan, Chris and Menchie Par to name a few, the event provided proper equipment for surfing and also teach the kids them about competitive aspects of the sport, all with hopes to provide a platform to help the kids get off to a surfing career.
